Restoring Quiet Comfort in a Heritage Psychology Practice

Selecting low-profile air distribution for a terrace consulting practice.
Published on
September 21, 2026

A terrace consulting practice sets three selection criteria at once: the thermal performance the duct has to deliver, the clearance the run actually has, and how visible the outlets are in the room.

Acoustic performance is a fourth criterion, assessed against published pressure-loss and sound data for the selected components rather than assumed from any one choice.

To specify this, send the required duct R-value, the measured ceiling void depth, the design airflow per room, and any heritage conditions that apply to the property.

Three constraints, and the products that answer them

Precision engineering transforms complex environmental challenges into strategic opportunities for performance and efficiency.

Duct performance against available clearance

The duct has to meet the thermal performance the project requires and still fit the clearance the void offers. Both are project inputs, not assumptions.

Firebreak R0.6 Flexible Duct

Firebreak is listed at R0.6, R1.0, R1.2 and R2.0 across 100 to 600 mm nominal diameters in 3 m and 6 m lengths. Select the R-value from the required thermal performance, then confirm the installed outside diameter and bend radius against the measured void before committing.

Outlets that suit the room

The practice wants air distributed along long, narrow rooms without visible mechanical hardware.

Linear Slot Diffusers

A linear slot diffuser runs with the ceiling line and distributes along the length of a room rather than at one point. The Q profile is listed in 1000 mm and 1200 mm lengths, three slots. Finishes on enquiry.

Regulating air room by room

Each room needs its share of the design airflow set independently of the others.

Plastic Barrel Dampers (Round)

A motorised zone damper regulates the airflow to each branch. The catalogue lists 56 codes across 24 V, 240 V and body-only variants in a range of nominal diameters. This is a damper, not a fan-speed controller; fan duty is set in the system design.
